Re “Jubilee Bloc-ers” (Feb. 8): So Bloc Quebecois MP Louis Plamondon is “irked” that the Harper government did such monarchist things as restoring the “Royal” titles to the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force? Is he bothered by the name “Royal 22e Regiment,” the Quebec based infantry regiment known as “The Van Doos” — which, unlike the RCAF and the RCN, never lost its “Royal” title back in 1968? It is also offensive that he is refusing to give out Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals to deserving constituents. Plamondon doesn’t seem to have a problem accepting money with the Queen’s image on it.

(Good point!)

Freuqntly, articles are edited and altered by the editor due to space limitations and for clarity.  Below is the original article I submitted to the editors:

So Bloc Quebecois MP Louis Plamondon is "irked" that the Harper government did such monarchist things as restoring the "Royal" titles to the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force?  Funny, considering he doesn't seem to have a problem with "Royal" in the name of the "Royal 22e Régiment", the Quebec based infantry regiment commonly referred to as "The Van Doos" (which by the way, unlike the RCAF and the RCN, never lost their "Royal" title back in 1968).

It is also offensive that he and other BQ members are refusing to give out Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals to their deserving constituents.  If they don't want them, send the medals to me.  I know many people who deserve such an honour.

He also doesn't seem to have a problem accepting money with the Queen's image on it.  Go figure!
